Responsive website design makes one website adjust its layout to fit any screen, from a phone to a wide desktop monitor. TLG Marketing plans layouts for phones first, sizes buttons and forms for thumbs, and keeps mobile load times short, so visitors on any device can read your offer and contact you without zooming or hunting for a phone number.

Who needs responsive design

If your site was designed for desktop and squeezed onto phones afterwards, mobile visitors are probably struggling with it. Common signs include text that needs pinching to read, menus that cover the page, and form fields too small to tap.

Service businesses feel this most. Many people looking for a plumber, a lawyer or a clinic search on their phone and want to call within a minute. If the number is buried or the page is slow, they go back to the search results and pick someone else.

How we design for small screens

  • Phone-first layouts. We decide what a mobile visitor sees on the first screen, usually your offer, some proof and a call button, then expand the design for larger screens.
  • Tap targets that work. Buttons, menu items and form fields are sized and spaced so they can be tapped accurately.
  • Click-to-call and short forms. Phone numbers dial on tap, and forms ask only for what you need to follow up.
  • Images sized per device. Phones receive smaller image files, so pages load quickly on mobile data.
  • Cross-browser testing. Every template is checked in the main browsers at phone, tablet and desktop widths.

Better for visitors and for search

Google primarily uses the mobile version of your pages to decide rankings, so a site that works poorly on phones can hold back your search visibility along with your leads. When a site needs both, we pair responsive design with mobile SEO and page speed work.

Responsive layouts come standard with every website we design. We also report mobile calls and form submissions separately, so you can see exactly how phone visitors respond.

// How it works

From first call to launch

  1. Discovery

    We learn your services, customers and goals, review your current site and analytics, and agree on what counts as a lead.

  2. Plan and wireframe

    We map the pages, organize the content and sketch layouts that put your calls to action where buyers look.

  3. Design and build

    You approve mockups of the key pages, then our developers build the site, connect your forms and set up GA4 tracking.

  4. Launch and support

    We test speed, devices and every form before going live, then handle updates, fixes and improvements.

// Questions

Responsive website design: common questions

How is a responsive site different from a separate mobile site?

A responsive site uses one set of pages that rearrange to fit each screen. A separate mobile site duplicates your content at another address, which doubles the upkeep. Responsive design is the approach Google recommends.

Will my site look identical on every device?

It shouldn’t. On smaller screens, navigation collapses into a menu, columns stack and images resize. Your content, branding and the actions we want visitors to take stay the same everywhere.

Does responsive design affect my Google Ads?

It can. Google Ads considers landing page experience, including how well a page works on mobile, when judging ad quality. A page that’s hard to use on a phone also wastes the clicks you pay for.

How much does a website cost?

It depends on scope: the number of pages, custom features, ecommerce and how much content needs writing. Tell us your budget on the form and we’ll show you what it can achieve.

How long does a website project take?

A small business website takes about two weeks from kickoff to launch. Larger sites with ecommerce, integrations or a lot of content take longer, and your proposal gives the timeline. Getting content and feedback to us quickly is the biggest factor you control.

Can you work on our existing website?

Yes. We can redesign it, improve what’s there, speed it up or move it to a new platform. We start by reviewing the current site so we know what’s worth keeping.
