AI search optimization helps search engines and AI assistants find and accurately describe your business. TLG Marketing improves your site’s eligibility for indexing in Google and Bing, lets AI search crawlers in, corrects your profiles and directory listings, runs a review program within Google’s and the FTC’s rules, and puts clear service facts on your pages.

Who it’s for

More buyers ask an AI assistant for a shortlist before they call anyone. Assistants build those answers from search indexes, business profiles, directories and reviews, so a gap in any of them can leave you out. You likely need this work if:

  • An assistant gives your old address or phone number, or services you no longer offer.
  • Few of your pages appear in Bing.
  • Assistants name competitors for your service in your city and leave you out.

What we do

  • Google and Bing indexing. For Google’s AI search features, pages need to be indexed and eligible for search snippets. We also check the site’s Search generative AI inclusion setting in Search Console. Meeting eligibility requirements does not guarantee a citation or placement. Bing indexing and crawlability can support discovery across Microsoft search experiences. We verify your site in Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools, fix indexing errors and set up IndexNow for Bing.
  • Crawler access. We allow Googlebot, Bingbot, OAI-SearchBot, Claude-SearchBot and PerplexityBot in robots.txt and check that your host or CDN isn’t blocking them. OpenAI, Anthropic and Perplexity each say blocking their search crawler reduces or removes your visibility in their answers.
  • Profiles and listings. Google Business Profile, Bing Places, Apple Business Connect, Yelp and Clutch, with matching name, address, phone and services, and old listings cleaned up. Our Google Business Profile management keeps yours current.
  • Reviews. The same request to every customer, with no rewards and no screening out of unhappy ones, within Google’s review policies and the FTC’s rule on consumer reviews.
  • Pages with quotable facts. Service pages that state what you do, for whom, where and at what price or range, in the page HTML. Our content marketing team helps turn those facts into useful service pages and guides. We keep essential service facts in accessible, crawlable HTML so discovery does not depend on an assistant executing page scripts.

How we measure it

Many people act on an AI answer without clicking, so we track mentions and visits, and tie both to leads:

  • GA4. A channel for identifiable visits from ChatGPT, Perplexity, Copilot, Gemini and Claude, with recorded leads reported for each. Our GA4 setup and audit service checks the tracking behind those reports.
  • Search Console and Bing. Google’s generative AI report provides AI-feature impression data where available, Bing’s AI Performance report provides citation and visibility data for supported Microsoft AI experiences, and the branded-query filter shows whether more people search your name.
  • A monthly prompt panel. The same buyer questions asked in ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude and Copilot, noting whether you’re named. Answers vary between runs, so each question runs more than once.

What we won’t sell you

We don’t sell llms.txt files, special “AI schema” or guaranteed citations. Google says its Search ignores llms.txt and its AI features need no special structured data. Most of this work overlaps with local SEO and our SEO services, so it can run as part of either.

Start with the pages you already have

AI search work starts with clear, accurate information about your actual services. An SEO audit helps identify missing pages, indexing problems and content worth improving. Existing service pages, useful guides and verifiable project details give us a starting point; a separate page for every variation of an AI question usually does not help a buyer decide.

Guidance behind our approach

Our recommendations follow Google’s AI search guidance, its Search generative AI controls, OpenAI’s crawler documentation and Bing’s AI Performance documentation. Search-crawler access is separate from permission to use content for model training. No agency can guarantee first place or a recommendation in an AI answer.

Compare the answers your buyers actually see

Build the question list around services, customer needs and markets. Include provider comparisons, cost questions and implementation concerns, as well as searches for your business by name. A national buying question and a local recommendation can produce different competitors and sources, so they should be reviewed separately.

Record the question, platform, date, market and the cited pages. Repeat the checks because answers vary. Look for patterns in missing information or inaccurate descriptions, then improve the relevant page. One favorable answer is useful evidence to examine, but it is not a dependable measure of overall visibility.

Keep mentions, visits and leads separate

An assistant can mention your business without linking to it. A citation can appear without producing a click. A visit becomes a business result only if it leads to something useful, such as an inquiry or sale. Keeping those measures separate makes progress easier to judge and prevents a visibility report from overstating its commercial value.

Our guides to tracking Google AI visibility and identifying ChatGPT referral traffic in GA4 explain the measurement questions in more detail.

// Questions

AI search: common questions

Does an llms.txt file help?

Google says Google Search ignores llms.txt, so the file neither helps nor harms your visibility there. The crawler documentation from OpenAI, Anthropic and Perplexity covers robots.txt and doesn’t mention llms.txt. We can add one if you want it, but we don’t count it as part of the work.

Can you guarantee ChatGPT or Google will recommend us?

No. OpenAI says placement in ChatGPT search isn’t guaranteed, and Google says no one can guarantee a #1 ranking. We remove the barriers we can find, such as blocked crawlers, pages missing from Bing and wrong listings, then report each month on whether assistants name you.

Should we block the AI crawlers that collect training data?

That’s a business decision separate from search visibility. OpenAI and Anthropic run different crawlers for search and for model training, and their documentation ties visibility in answers to the search crawlers. Blocking the training crawlers, GPTBot and ClaudeBot, has no documented effect on whether you appear in ChatGPT or Claude answers.

What should an AI visibility report show?

It should identify the questions tested, platforms, dates and markets, along with observed mentions, citations and competitor appearances. Website referrals and recorded leads should be reported separately. Repeated checks are more useful than one screenshot because answers can change between runs.

Do we need a separate page for every AI question?

No. A well-organized service page can answer several related buying questions. Create a separate page when it serves a distinct need and has enough useful information to stand on its own. Improve existing pages and connect related material before multiplying near-identical versions.
