Link building is the work of earning links to your website from other relevant sites, which Google treats as a signal of authority. TLG Marketing finds where your competitors get their links, creates reasons for industry, local and media sites to mention you, reclaims links you’ve lost, and points that authority at the service and product pages that bring in leads.
When links are the missing piece
Links rarely fix a site on their own. They matter most when your pages are technically sound and well written, yet sites with stronger backlink profiles still rank above you. That’s common for newer domains, businesses moving into a competitive city or industry, and companies whose best pages have never been promoted. If you’re unsure whether authority is your problem, an SEO audit will tell you.
How we earn links
- Link gap analysis. We list the sites linking to the pages that outrank you and pick out the ones that are realistic targets for your business.
- Content worth citing. Guides, original data from your business, tools and expert commentary that writers and editors want to reference. Our content marketing team produces it.
- Outreach. Personal pitches to editors, bloggers and industry sites, written for each recipient.
- Local and industry sources. Chambers of commerce, trade associations, suppliers, sponsorships and community events, which also support your local SEO.
- Reclamation. Unlinked brand mentions turned into links, and broken links to your old pages redirected so their value isn’t lost.
What we won’t do
We don’t buy links from networks, trade links in bulk or post on sites built only to sell links. Those shortcuts violate Google’s spam policies, and any penalty falls on your site.
Every link we earn appears in your report with the linking page, the page it points to and the anchor text, alongside rankings and leads for the pages we’re supporting. You see exactly what was built and whether it moved the pages that make you money.

// Questions
Link building: common questions
Do you buy links?
No. Paying for links that pass ranking value breaks Google’s spam policies and can get a site penalized. We earn links through outreach, useful content, partnerships and local involvement, and any paid placement, such as a sponsorship, carries the proper link attributes.
What makes a link worth having?
Relevance comes first: one link from a trade publication or local association in your field is worth more than dozens from unrelated sites. After that, we look at whether the site has real readers and whether the link sits in content people actually see.
What happens to bad links already pointing at my site?
Google ignores most low-quality links on its own, so they rarely need action. If your site has a manual action or a clear pattern of paid or spammy links from a past campaign, we document them and use Google’s disavow tool where it’s warranted.
