Website maintenance is the routine work that keeps a site secure, fast and accurate after launch. TLG Marketing updates your CMS, theme and plugins, keeps offsite backups, monitors for malware and downtime, renews what needs renewing, makes small content edits, and tests speed and forms each month, then sends a report listing everything we did.
Why websites need upkeep
A website is software, and software ages. Plugins and themes release security fixes, hosts retire old PHP versions, SSL certificates and domains expire, and a contact form can stop sending email without anyone noticing. A broken form loses every inquiry sent while it’s down.
Maintenance suits businesses on self-hosted WordPress or WooCommerce, including custom WordPress builds, and any business without a developer on staff. Shopify and other hosted platforms handle server and core updates themselves, so our work there focuses on apps, theme updates and content.
What a maintenance plan covers
- Updates. Core, theme and plugin updates applied to a staging copy, checked, then pushed live.
- Backups. Scheduled backups of files and database stored away from your web host, with restores tested.
- Security monitoring. Malware scans, login protection, removal of unused plugins and old admin accounts, and cleanup if something gets through.
- Uptime monitoring. Alerts when the site goes down, so we can start on a fix before customers tell you.
- Small edits. Text, photo, staff and opening-hours changes, new blog posts and minor layout fixes, requested by email.
- Speed upkeep. Monthly checks of load times and Core Web Vitals, with image and caching fixes when pages slow down. Deeper work runs as page speed optimization.
The monthly report
Each month you get a short report covering what was updated, backup status, any security events or downtime, edits completed, speed results, and a test submission of every form and click-to-call link. If GA4 shows leads dropping, we flag it so you can decide what to do next.
When something needs more than upkeep, such as a redesign or accessibility fixes, we scope it as a separate project so your plan stays predictable.
Compare maintenance plans and costs
Our website maintenance cost guide explains the difference between hosting, ongoing care and larger projects, with a checklist for comparing support and recovery coverage.
// How it works
From site review to ongoing care
Review the existing site
We review your platform, hosting, software and important pages, then agree which updates, edits and checks belong in the maintenance plan.
Prepare backups and safe updates
We establish the backup and monitoring routine and test software updates on a staging copy before changing the live site.
Maintain and check
We apply the agreed updates and content edits, review security and uptime alerts, and check key pages, forms and loading speed.
Report and plan the next work
Your report lists completed work and any remaining issues. Larger changes, redesigns and new features are scoped separately.

// Questions
Website maintenance: common questions
What happens if our site gets hacked?
We restore a clean backup or take the site offline, remove the malicious code, close the hole it came through and change every password. If Google has flagged the site, we fix the issues listed in Search Console and request a review.
Why test updates on a staging site?
An update can clash with your theme or another plugin and break a page or a form. Testing on a private copy first means we find and fix those problems before your customers see them.
Who keeps control of our domain and hosting?
You do. We recommend keeping your domain, hosting and admin accounts in your company’s name, and we work through our own user accounts, which you can remove at any time.
